We all know the feeling; reading a book to your son, daughter, nieces, nephews, grandsons, grand daughters – whatever. Reading a book and not having any of the characters look like you or like them.
We came to the conclusion on 25th April 2019 that we had long since grown tired of the not being able to relate to any of the characters in the books we were reading to the little people in our lives.
And that’s not to say that we don’t appreciate all the classic children’s books. We grew up on “The Tiger Who Came To Tea”, “We’re Going On A Bear Hunt” and all things Roald Dahl.
But let’s not beat around the bush; representation matters and this is especially true for children. The books we read and the TV shows and movies we watched as children shaped the way we viewed not just ourselves, but also others around us. We strongly believe that it’s important to have both representations of ourselves and of people who don’t look like us.
So, instead of sitting around complaining, we decided to effect the change we wanted to see. Thus, Littlest Leaps was born.
